In the care of Chiropractors

For the past week, I’ve been carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders. More specifically, between my shoulder blades. And up into the right side of my neck. Ugh.

I’ve seen a chiropractor off and on since 2008. I get really bad tension headaches which, as my first chiropractor found out, are a result of my neck being shaped like the letter ‘S’ – for those of you who don’t know…that’s really not normal. The reason THAT happened is because I got the lid of a dumpster slammed on my head when I was in college (and yes, I was sober at the time). Anyway, for years I killed the pain with ibuprofen, Excedrin, more ibuprofen and making homemade neck braces with towels. Those were the lowest points.

My first chiropractor, Dr. Dan Klein at Everybody’s Chiropractic , is a fantastic chiropractor and a fantastic guy. Saved me from many a migraine…as well as helping my husband’s wrist go from being really messed up to more or less normal. (Your spine being out of alignment shows up in more than just back pain. )

When we moved back up to New England from Pennsylvania, we didn’t see a chiropractor at all for a few years. That…wasn’t a good idea. Neither one of us felt comfortable at all after awhile, and I’m actually surprised it took me as long as I did to get my ass into gear around getting back to one. Surprisingly, it was my husband – the man I had to basically beg, threaten and plead with to go get a physical, something he hadn’t had done in YEARS – who wanted to go back. I think I didn’t want to try to find another chiropractor because I was sure that nobody could be as good as Dr. Dan. It’s freaking scary to entrust your spine to somebody…lord only knows what they’re doing when they crack all those vertebrae.

Luckily, one day at Derryfest in Derry, NH, my mother and my sisters and I came upon Dr. Jess of Broadway Chiropractic , who had a booth set up to welcome new patients, if they cared to sign up. I wasn’t even thinking about a visit for me at first – my sister really needed it, having been in a car accident (read: hit by a car) a year earlier. But, I signed me and the husband up, anyway – and it was a smart choice. Dr. Jess and her husband, Dr. Phil are pretty great. I like their philosophies and practice, and they are both very easy to relate to…a rarity among doctors, it seems.

Anyway, I’m actually heading out now to get adjusted…I was stupid enough to travel all over the damn place since the end of December and not make time to go get myself adjusted so now I feel like my back muscles are punching me from the inside out. Woe is the unadjusted. Woe.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a chiropractor in southern New Hampshire, please check out Broadway Chiropractic.

  1. A recent study examined behavioral and sleep disturbances experienced by post-colicky children who had been treated with chiropractic care versus children who had not received such treatment. Results showed that toddlers who had been treated with chiropractic care were two times as likely not to experience long-term consequences of colic than those who had been treated with chiropractic care.
